The teacher behind Danemathics

Daniel John Simons

Founder & teacher, Danemathics

Danemathics is created and run by Daniel John Simons, a practising South African high school mathematics teacher. What started as extra practice material for his own learners has grown into a free, open resource used by students far beyond a single classroom.

Why Danemathics exists

In the classroom, the same pattern shows up every year: the learners who improve the most are the ones who work through past papers, mark themselves honestly, and go back over what they got wrong. The problem was never effort — it was access. Good past papers, matching memos and clear explanations were scattered, mislabelled or locked away. Danemathics brings them together in one place, free for every learner, so that the habit that builds real understanding is easy to start.

Everything Daniel has built

  • This website — free lessons, past papers, memos, worksheets and a searchable maths dictionary for Grades 8–12.
  • The Danemathics YouTube channel — video lessons and full worked solutions to real exam papers.
  • Danemathics: Rise to Legend — a free CAPS-aligned maths game that turns Grade 8–9 practice into an adventure, with a teacher dashboard so educators can track their class.

The goal

To make quality maths help genuinely free and genuinely enjoyable — whether a learner prefers to read a lesson, watch a video, download a paper, or play their way to fluency. If it helps one more student walk into an exam feeling ready, it's doing its job.
