Question 1
[10 MARKS]Four options are given as possible answers to the following questions. Choose the correct answer and circle the letter (A–D) in the grid at the end of this section. If you want to change your choice, put a cross through the wrong letter and circle your new choice.
- 1.1The angle at the CENTRE of a circle is … the angle at the circumference on the same arc.(1)A)twiceB)halfC)equal toD)supplementary to
- 1.2The angle in a SEMICIRCLE is …(1)A)90°B)180°C)60°D)45°
- 1.3The OPPOSITE angles of a cyclic quadrilateral are …(1)A)supplementaryB)equalC)complementaryD)both 90°
- 1.4In cyclic quadrilateral ABCD, ∠A = 105°. Then ∠C = …(1)A)75°B)105°C)255°D)15°
- 1.5A line drawn from the centre PERPENDICULAR to a chord …(1)A)bisects the chordB)is a tangent to the circleC)is equal in length to the radiusD)bisects the angle that chord subtends at the circumference
- 1.6A tangent to a circle is perpendicular to …(1)A)the radius at the point of contactB)any chord of the circleC)every diameterD)the chord nearest to it
- 1.7Angles subtended by the same chord IN THE SAME SEGMENT are …(1)A)equalB)supplementaryC)complementaryD)in the ratio 2 : 1
- 1.8Two tangents drawn to a circle from the same external point are …(1)A)equal in lengthB)perpendicular to each otherC)parallelD)equal in length to the radius
- 1.9The EXTERIOR angle of a cyclic quadrilateral equals …(1)A)the interior opposite angleB)the adjacent interior angleC)twice the interior opposite angleD)90°
- 1.10The tan-chord theorem says the angle between a tangent and a chord equals …(1)A)the angle in the alternate segmentB)the angle at the centreC)90°D)the angle in the same segment as itself

Question 2
[9 MARKS]In the diagram, O is the centre of the circle and SR is a chord with SR = 40 cm. OT ⊥ SR, with T on SR. It is given that OT = 3x and the radius OR = 5x.
- 2.1Write down the length of TR, and give a reason.(2)
- 2.2Determine the value of x.(5)
- 2.3Hence write down the length of the radius and the distance from O to the chord.(2)
Question 3
[12 MARKS]In the diagram below, O is the centre of a circle and A, B, C and D lie on the circumference. OD ⊥ AB, with OD cutting AB at M. C lies on the major arc AB and ÔB̂A = 54°.
- 3.1Determine, with reasons, the size of ÔÂB.(3)
- 3.2Determine, with reasons, the size of ÂÔB.(3)
- 3.3Hence determine, with a reason, the size of Ĉ.(3)
- 3.4Prove that OD bisects AB.(3)
